About Kier

Kier is self-taught in the art of Photography, and has been absorbing and practicing every detail imaginable of it ever since his father’s classic Pentax K1000 was tossed his way nearly 15 years ago. Kier began his informal education in the darkroom that he built with his father in the basement of his childhood home. Today he primarily shoots digitally, with a Canon DSLR, but his technique is well-grounded in the principles of light that those hours and hours hunched over an enlarger or chemicals taught him. Since then, Kier has augmented his knowledge with various classes and workshops, an extensive library, and of course practical shooting experience in the field.

Kier’s creative vision has been influenced not only by many great photographers, but also by the more traditional visual arts. His primary areas of interest are in dynamic portraiture, fine art, commercial editorial, and advertising.

Kier attended Kent State University and Columbia College where he studied Computer Science and Marketing.

Artist Statement
I take photographs of the pieces of life that amaze me. Usually those subjects are the often-overlooked places of insignificance; simple objects passed by every day; or the dynamics and relationships that comprise our human experience. I can’t determine what I’m going to photograph next, I only know that it will be something that I can’t get out of my head, and I aim to have my photos show why.
